Marije Vogelzang talked at the AIGA Gain conference, about her particular discipline, eating design. Specifcally she creates 'eating experiences' and products, alongside performance and exhibitions. The thinking behind her projects is fantastically insightful, and execution very exciting.
Sadly one of the projects she talked about isn't covered on her website (which is well worth spending time checking out the projects and exhibitions). She asked the question of how to get children to enjoy the taste of vegetables, and devised a simple game whereby she asked her daughter and friends to create jewellery and objects out of vegetables with the caveat that the only tool they could use was their own teeth. Thus ensued happy children creating all sorts of playful items without realising that they started to become familiar, and then enjoy, the taste of vegetables.
A great idea for Jamie Oliver to steal, I think.
